Coming Home to Your Body

Your body holds stories your mind has yet to process. Somatic therapy offers a way to process trauma and stress through movement, breath, and nervous system regulation—helping you feel safer, more present, and more in tune with yourself.

What Is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach to healing that recognizes that trauma, stress, and emotional pain are not just mental experiences—they are also stored in the body. Instead of relying solely on talk therapy, somatic work engages the nervous system to help release deeply held patterns of tension, fear, and emotional distress.

By integrating breathwork, movement, mindfulness, and nervous system regulation, somatic therapy allows the body to process and release stored trauma in a safe and supportive way. This helps clients feel more grounded, regulated, and in tune with themselves.

Benefits of Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy is for anyone who feels disconnected from their body, overwhelmed by emotions, or stuck in patterns of stress and tension. By working with the body's natural ability to regulate and heal, it helps release stored trauma, reconnect with yourself, and restore a sense of safety from within.

Many people find that somatic therapy helps them:

  • Feel more present and grounded.

  • Regulate emotions instead of feeling controlled by them.

  • Reduce chronic stress, anxiety, and nervous system dysregulation.

  • Heal trauma without reliving painful memories in detail.

  • Address physical symptoms linked to emotional pain.

Somatic therapy is especially helpful for:

  • PTSD & Trauma – Releasing stored survival responses.

  • Anxiety & Depression – Balancing the nervous system to ease distress.

  • Dissociation & Feeling Disconnected – Rebuilding a sense of safety.

  • Emotional Overwhelm – Learning to calm the body first.

  • Chronic Stress & Burnout – Restoring nervous system balance.

By working with the body rather than against it, somatic therapy allows for deeper, more lasting healing—not just in the mind, but in how you feel in your body.

How Somatic Therapy Works

Somatic therapy works by engaging the body and nervous system in a way that allows healing to happen naturally.

Here’s what a session might include:

1. Nervous System Regulation

The foundation of somatic work is learning to recognize and regulate your nervous system responses. This involves noticing when your body is in fight, flight, freeze, or fawn mode and practicing tools to bring it back into a state of balance (the window of tolerance).

2. Body Awareness & Mindfulness

Rather than focusing solely on thoughts, somatic therapy encourages you to notice and track physical sensations—tightness, warmth, movement, or stillness—helping you build a deeper connection to yourself.

3. Breathwork & Movement

Breath is a powerful tool for releasing stored tension and activating the body’s natural ability to heal. Gentle movements, stretches, or grounding techniques may also be incorporated to help shift stuck energy and support emotional processing.

4. Releasing Stored Trauma & Emotional Energy

Rather than forcing emotions to the surface, somatic therapy allows stored trauma and stress to release organically—at a pace that feels safe and manageable. This process often leads to a greater sense of calm, clarity, and self-trust.
